A week or so before Christmas a book arrived on my doorstep. I probably shouldn’t admit that Amazon orders are as frequent as home cooked supper around here, near daily. Even though I’ve come to expect both, some books, like dinners, are more memorable than others.
I knew God is My Refuge would become a favorite book even before I read the first page. I’ve been a fan of Kathy Howard for a while and when I was asked to review her new 12 week devotional, I was honored and excited. But, I was also busy and I tucked the book away in my carry-on bag to read on the plane during our holiday travel.
Well, that was in December and let me just say, I’ve had God is My Refuge out every day since.
God is My Refuge is billed as a devotional, but to me it falls somewhere comfortably between a daily devotional and a full-on Bible study. The daily devotions are engaging and transforming with prayer prompts, Scripture memory and thought provoking questions for reflection and personal application.
Divided into twelve week topics including biggies like uncertainty, worry, illness, and fear, Kathy leads each daily reading with a spot-on personal reflection that invites you not only into her personal life, but draws you nearer to the heart of God.
Sample Devotion: God is My Refuge PDF
Kathy generously provided a sample devotion for me to share with you from week six on Broken Relationships. The memory verse is Hebrews 12:14. I hope you’ll download and print the sample devotion. And, that you’ll be as encouraged by God is My Refuge as I have been.
In fact, I think Kathy’s book would make an excellent small group study, too.
Hmmm. . .now there’s an idea. (I wonder if any of my small group girlfriends are reading this?!) God is My Refuge would also make a wonderful Lenten devotional.
Whether you savor God’s Word in a quiet space of your life or collectively with friends, I encourage you to spend twelve weeks reading God is My Refuge. Then let me know what you think. I always love to hear from you, friends.
Love,

You are the second blogging friend to post something about her book. I honestly never heard of her before your reviews. Ah, the power of the blog to influence . . . I’ll have to check it out. Sending love to you, wish I was going to see you this week at the conference, hopefully later this year in Greenville.

Hmmm… Sounds great. I can think of a small group that could use a new study. 😉
