Crock Pot Sesame Chicken

Super easy. Super yum. Sesame Chicken in the crockpot is one of our family’s favorite suppers.

Ingredients

  • For the chicken:
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/3 cup tamari {or soy sauce}
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • green onion, chopped for garnish
  • sesame seeds, sprinkled for garnish
  • For the rice:
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 3/4 cup water or chicken broth

Instructions

  1. For the chicken:
  2. Place chicken in crockpot. Mix tamari, honey, orange juice, tomato paste, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger together in a small bowl. Pour over chicken. Cook on low for 4 hours. remove chicken from crockpot and cut into bite size pieces. Strain cooking liquid into a small sauce pan and cook over medium heat until it has reduced by half. Spoon sauce over chicken and rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

  4. In a sauce pan with a fitted lid, heat sesame oil. Add rice and stir until coated and fragrant. Add water or broth. Stir once. Bring rice to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes or until water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and serve.
