Spring is in the air! It’s time to freshen up those Turquoise Tables. Here’s a quick list of tips to help you prep your Turquoise Table for front yard get-togethers with neighbors and friends.
1. Be prepared, not perfect
One of the best things about being Front Yard People is our proximity to the edge of the street. Why? Because we are all about kicking perfection to the curb!
If you’re like me, it can be tempting to fall into the trap of perfection, waiting for the perfect time, the perfect weather, the perfect reason, the perfect ____________ (fill in the blanks) to invite someone over. Remember, ain’t no such thing as perfection. Buh-bye Pinterest. Oh hey, front yard friendships.
2. Use What You’ve Got
Without leaving your house, see if you can pull together a few items you already have on hand to help you be ready for spontaneous gatherings at your Turquoise Table. Grab a laundry basket or a plastic bin, whatever you have on hand. I created a Love Tote with a gift from a friend. It fits on a shelf next to my washing machine and I keep cups, napkins, even an extra tin of nuts stashed in my Love Tote. Nothing perfect — just keeps me organized and prepared for spontaneous gatherings at the Turquoise Table.
3. TLC
If your table is coming out of winter hibernation, chances are it’s gonna need some tender loving care. Currently, our Turquoise Table is sporting a neon green glow of pollen. Pollen is good for nature, but not for allergies or the debut of white jeans! Get the kids involved. A little elbow grease will give your Turquoise Table that come-on-over glow.
4. Make a “Wish List”
Jot down people around you who you’d like to get to know better this spring and summer. Keep it simple — just a short list of people. Seeing the names on paper reminds us of the “why” behind the Turquoise Table. I know for me, putting something in writing makes me more accountable. And, let’s be honest, a little bit of accountability can be that extra push that we need!
5. Have fun!
Most importantly, remember to enjoy the process of meeting new people. No need to overthink things or make them more complicated than they need to be. Just think, the names you jotted down on your “wish list” could soon be friends. What are you waiting for?
