Suppers for Sharing

Since the beginning of time, humans have eaten. No matter who you are or where you live, you need food to survive. While food may keep us alive, it’s the act of sharing a meal that allows us to thrive.

Think about the meaningful moments in your life. Chances are food played a role in creating the memory. Meals are a beloved and universal ritual. We celebrate the birth of a baby with a nourishing meal for the new mother. We show up with broken hearts and a comforting casserole to mourn the death of a loved one. And in between, we sing and blow candles on a cake to mark each birthday.

Life’s most important moments happen around a common table over a shared meal. Eating together allows us the opportunity to take part in the lives of the people around us.

We know meals are an essential part of life together. Yet, statistics show we are eating fewer and fewer meals together. Why? We’re busy. Food costs money. Hospitality takes time. The results; however, are costly. America is in the throes of a loneliness epidemic and our mental and physical health is in peril.

The simple act of sharing a meal with others can transform loneliness to belonging.

Meals slow things down. Eating together prevents loneliness. Supper is an invitation to come as you are. When we break bread, tortilla chips, or pita together something holy happens. We belong. Our bodies are nourished and our hearts are filled.

Suppers for Sharing: Meals for Creating Connection is designed to help you connect with the people in your life. Each recipe offers a way to help you take good care of yourself, your family, and your neighbors by sharing the love of a meal at the table and beyond. You can share soup with a friend, pack muffins for school-aged children, deliver a one-pot dish to a neighbor, take bread to a shelter, or gather neighbors for a pancake supper.

Each week you’ll receive a recipe for sharing plus a question to prompt conversation around the table or in a journal.

I’m more realistic, reserved and battle weary thirty years later. But, I still believe in a place called hope.

Said goodbye to 2020 and welcomed 2021 in our happ Said goodbye to 2020 and welcomed 2021 in our happy place @ymcarockies We’ve packed it all in— sledding, skating, hiking, vision boards, celebrated our 23rd anniversary, and kicked off the New Year this morning with a 5k. I even found time to sit and stitch by the fire.

Sure feels like we are making up for lost time and setting our hope for the year ahead. Happy New Year friends!!

We’ve never been here the week between Christmas and NYE and we’re excited to explore in the snow. ❄️ I’m already laughing at our summer stash of clothes we keep here —cotton leggings, hoodies, and fishing boots. Feel free to laugh with and at me. Also winter friends—give me all your tips.
