I’m reading a wonderful Lenten devotional book called Not By Bread Alone, by Bishop Robert Morneau. Today’s devotion is titled Towel and Basin People. The devotional walks through the importance of what Jesus did by washing the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper. Bishop Morneau coins the phrase ‘towel and basin people’ referring to the people who followed the example of Jesus and washed the feet of those whom they met. He describes Mother Teresa and Oscar Romero as towel and basin people who worked and died in their service to others.
Today is Maundy Thursday. A day to remember the intimate, last gathering of Jesus and his disciples in the upper room where he washed their feet, broke bread and gave them the new commandment to love and serve each other.
I’d be honored if you joined me at Seeds of Faith. I’m telling the story of my first foot washing experience…
Blessings to you this Easter season!
