Hi friends! Hope you didn’t miss our Freebie Friday series too much last week. I promise that this week’s Turquoise Table giveaway book is more than worth the wait to make up for it! This week we bring you…
Loving My Actual Life by Alexandra Kuykendall
Alexandra is a friend of mine and I wish each of you could sit down with her in person to hear her heart and the story behind Loving My Actual Life.
Her book opens with a scene we can ALL relate to: As the alarm on her phone buzzes before dawn, Alex’s mind is already crammed with yesterday’s unfinished to-do list. The urgency of the day already marching forward before her feet even hit the floor. She gives us an honest and relatable insight to a typical whirlwind day as a busy working mother of four daughters.
“I was living day after day crammed full with no foreseeable end to the crazy-making. Ever. With a three-year old as our caboose child, it could be roughly fifteen more years of this kind of crazy-making. I was operating in perma-exhaustion, which I’m sure you can imagine, made me a sweet and lovely person.”
Alexandra confides she was not living a sustainable life. Something drastic needed to happen.
But what?
I needed a reordering, a restart, a recalibration of my days. ~ Alexandra Kuykendall
With humor, grace, and the humility of a good friend, Alexandra shares her 9-month experiment to change her heart more than her circumstances. Remarkably, a few small changes resulted in BIG change for Alexandra and her family.
{From Amazon} What if you could actually love the life you are living right now?
In life, there is the ideal: fulfilling work, thriving relationships, financial security. Not to mention an orderly and beautiful home and children who never misbehave. And then there’s reality: frustrations, illness, feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. We can wait around for our circumstances to change and in the process miss the goodness right in front of us. Or we can choose to love our actual lives, right here and now.
In this entertaining and insightful book, Alexandra Kuykendall chronicles her nine-month experiment to rekindle her love of her ordinary, actual life. After wiping her calendar as clean as a mother of four can, Kuykendall focuses on one aspect of her life each month, searching for ways to more fully enjoy her current season. By intentionally adding one thing each month that will make her jump for joy, she provides a practical challenge you can easily replicate in your life. With humor, poignancy, and plenty of personal stories, she shows how a few small changes can make this crazy-busy life one of holy contentment.

I’ve been eyeing this book for awhile. My heart needs a resetting. I struggle in the tension of living in the here and now and embracing where I am and also having future dreams and a calling.
As for what I love in my actual life right now, it’s my 15 month olds babbles and kisses and hugs. My 3 year olds goofy phrases. My 5 year olds random comments. My 8 year old is turning into a girl-lady. And my 10 year old can dress and feed himself and is the first to obey now. 😉
Thanks for the giveaway!

Megan, I know that struggle of living in the here and now and balancing it with dreams and my calling, too. My friend Kimberley always reminds me of two things: 1) As mamas we can have it all, just not all at once; and 2) God is pro-family and will give us seasons to dream and seasons to go. Embrace the struggle, it was in the middle of the tension of needing to be present as a wife and for our 4 children and the calling of living out Biblical hospitality that God answered my prayers with the Turquoise Table. 😉 Praying for you and get this book even if you don’t win the giveaway — it’s SO worth it. Fingers crossed though. xo, Kristin

I love that I am able to live in a country where I am able to be free when there is so many others that live in a world where they are not allowed to have their own thoughts or beliefs.
