Without a doubt, my most coveted kitchen item is a heavy old stockpot from our family’s farmhouse when I was growing up. (I think my mom bought it at the local general store.) I often use it 2-3 times a day and when I’m cooking something that requires multiple pots, I find myself hand washing and re-using the pot (leaving the four other stockpots I own in the cabinet).

Ummm… probably my All-Clad 3 quart saucier. I love that baby. I also love my grandmother’s cast iron dutch oven. Ooo-ooo– forgot about the espresso maker– can’t get going without that one.

Okay, so I love the whole mis en place concept. so everything’s all measured out, the cute little bowls are all around, and I realize that I zoned out somewhere along the line. So then I OCD out, and start double-reading the recipe, and then I zone out while double-checking. It’s quite annoying.

Quirky Kitchen Ritual—without a doubt ALWAYS wearing a teatowel drapped over my left shoulder.

So that’s where I got it…I recently craweled into bed with the damned teatowel still on my shoulder. The left one, of course. Wonder what else is inherited!?!?

I would have to say aluminum foil – can’t cook without it. Anything that goes in the oven has a layer of foil between it and the cooking vessel. That way I don’t have to wash big things. I guess that counts as a quirk too because it bugs me when G doesn’t do it. Runner-up is melon baller – use it to core apples and pears. And to ball melon too of course.

Meet Kristin

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm on a mission to love my neighbors. I put an ordinary picnic table in my front yard, painted it turquoise and invited neighbors, friends, and even strangers to hang out and do life together at the Turquoise Table®.

I hope you'll join us!
