Readiness

This, my friends, is not a picture of readiness. The Littles dumped their backpacks (which for the record are still full) on the last day of school and we haven’t touched them since. Why am I sharing our backpack-wall-of-shame in the garage with you? Because Mia reads my musings and she’ll vouch for me when I am successful in my back-to-school organization mission. Nothing like a mother to keep you accountable, huh?

I mentioned in my last post that I was being led by the Lord into a season of readiness. While my heart is being prepared for whatever God is up to in my life, He has also given me an overwhelming desire to prepare our home. Don’t you love it when His nudges have immediate tangible benefits?

I’m comforted by the busy-ness of the physical preparation. For the last two days, I have cleaned out backpacks, the laundry room, the pantry, my desk, and I still have a long way to go. As I clean, organize, potty train Littlest, schedule doctor and dentist well checks, and calendar the various activities for Fall, I do so trusting that I will be ready for whatever is next.

Surely I could chalk up my urge to purge and uber-organize as normal back-to-school preparation. And, no I’m not pregnant and nesting! But, the preparation of my heart is where God is truly working in my life. He IS preparing me and calling me to be ready.

As I clear the clutter and prepare for next, I wonder for what are you preparing?

We haven’t cleaned out the backpacks either. And I too am purging as much as possible, but that is just a usual summer event for us, no special leading at the moment. I don’t feel like I am making much headway….I am trying to enjoy the last moments of summer but the days have too much aimless space and not enough scheduled routine for me. I know that will change come Aug 23rd! Good luck with your continued clean out!

How do you know the difference between usual end of summer clean out and preparations for the Lord’s plans? I wish I knew the answer to your question.

‘How do you know the difference between usual end of summer clean out and preparations for the Lord’s plans?’

I love this question and it’s one I’ve asked myself. I am sure of the difference right now, only from continued prayer, saturation in the Word, and moments when I have precious nudges from our Lord.

Like you, I just wish I knew the answer for my question. In the meantime, I’m going about life, trying to be obedient to His call and waiting for whatever it is He is preparing me for.

Thank you for stopping by The Kitchen Mission today!

    Kristin,

I have never sat down and read your Kitchen Mission blog (I have read the Schell Cafe). I just wanted to stop by and tell you, I think waht you are doing is great. Very honest and eye opening.

    Love you,

    Amy

Meet Kristin

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm on a mission to love my neighbors. I put an ordinary picnic table in my front yard, painted it turquoise and invited neighbors, friends, and even strangers to hang out and do life together at the Turquoise Table®.

I hope you'll join us!
