Routine

There is nothing in my refrigerator. Seriously, nothing.

empty fridge

You thought I was kidding?

If you follow  me on twitter or facebook, it’s old news that we’ve been enjoying sunny (but oh so cool!) California for the last 10 days.  I realized this morning as I was sluggishly re-entering reality that I really like routine.  (What’s with the ‘r’s?) So much so, I fluidly moved through my morning rituals without skipping a beat.

Some mornings I greet the day with a 6 am workout.  Such was the case today.  Other mornings I just work my way down the stairs.  Regardless, as soon as I walk in the kitchen, I settle into a groove.

The first thing I do is make my morning coffee.

espresso

Nothing starts in my domain before coffee. Nothing. Sometimes I use this little, but oh so powerful Nespresso Machine.  This is my coffee cup from this very morning.  Other days, I brew coffee and then pour it into a carafe so it stays hot all morning.  But, we were out of coffee grounds this morning.  As well as everything else as evidenced by the empty fridge.

As soon as coffee hits my lips, I’m ready for the second part of my morning routine.  I always unload the dishwasher. First thing. Technically, second thing after coffee.  Every. Single. Morning.

Dishwasher

Clever as you are, you’ve already figured out that I must be equally neurotic about loading and running the dishwasher. Every.Single.Night. Yes, it’s true.  I absolutely cannot sleep if there are dishes in the sink.  No, I have not talked to anyone about this.

Why do I share this morning ritual of mine with you? I have absolutely no idea.

This routine of mine? It’s just what I do.  The kitchen is my turf. My office. Mama’s space.  It’s where I create. Make memories. Nourish my family. Back in the day, I had similar routines at a desk.  My scenery has changed, but apparently not my desire for a clean slate from which to start my day’s work.

The dishwasher is unloaded. My coffee is a sip away from being gone, and my Monday is off to a good start. Oh, except the part about the empty fridge. HEB and Whole Foods are in my immediate future.

So, what does your morning routine look like?

I head right for the teapot and while the water is heating feed my cat. I drink tea to start out and then a cup of coffee later on. Once my tea is made I make a bee-line for the computer. Nothing like waking up by reading blogs!

Reeni – Sounds like a good morning routine to me. But, it must take you hours to read through all your comments and favorite blogs. You have such a huge following!

I am thrilled that you’re back, and happy last weeks of summer…! So, have I ever told you how much I LOVE your Blue Cheese Dressing, as I made it again tonight?! Thank you for that great recipe nugget — it’s committed to memory. And, re the dishes-in-the-sink, I’m there…no dishes in the sink at night, and nothing’s better than unloading w/my cuppa joe in the a.m.! Cheers!

Meet Kristin

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm on a mission to love my neighbors. I put an ordinary picnic table in my front yard, painted it turquoise and invited neighbors, friends, and even strangers to hang out and do life together at the Turquoise Table®.

I hope you'll join us!
