I sit down at the computer every morning and think of a million things I want to share with you. A million things is a lot of commotion for one, little brain.
I want to talk about ALL THE THINGS. Things we would talk about if you were sitting with me and girlfriends at the Turquoise Table.
Sadly, we all can’t squeeze around the table together. And, since talking about a million things would take longer than we have between right-this-very-minute and whatever’s next, I thought I’d take a minute to share just five things.
It’s a tough job to pick only five, but for now here’s a short list of things I’m currently thinking about, obsessing over, or simply enjoying. In other words, I love these 5 things and hope you will, too.
5 Things
1. This is Us
The new TV hit on NBC is currently at the top of my all the things list. We don’t have cable, so I’m grateful I can stream the show on the NBC website. Hurry and watch. There’s only two episodes so far, so it’s a tiny binge, but worth it. I don’t want to spill the beans about the plot, but I will say, “I never saw that coming.” My favorite character is Kate, played by Chrissy Metz. As someone who struggles with my weight, it’s so refreshing to see a character in real life who isn’t stick thin.
2. Bone broth
I’m obsessed. Several years ago, I got on the bone broth kick. Then, I just stopped making it. I need to focus on my health — don’t worry, I’m not sick, just feeling icky and in need of a reboot. Bone broth is a simple way to sip on healthy nutrients and help heal an overworked gut. Mia, my mother, just popped in for a quick visit. Y’all, she brought me a three pound bag of beef bones. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is. I’m making us a giant pot of beef bone broth today in the Crock-Pot. I’ll let the broth simmer on low for 24 hours, then pour into individual one-cup containers to freeze.
Recipe: 3-4 lbs of chicken or beef bones, veggie scraps like celery tops, onion skins, carrot tops and ends. Toss it all in the crockpot, add water to almost full, cook on low for 24 hours. Strain the broth. Save the bones for one more broth. Toss the veggies. Broth keeps in the fridge for 3-4 days. Freeze broth in one-cup containers for 2-3 months.
3. Rhythms of Rest
I’m reading my friend Shelly Miller’s new book Rhythms of Rest. Shelly leads the Sabbath Society, an online community of people who are trying to live out the gift of rest through Sabbath. I’m a Sabbath girl, but it’s so hard to make rest a priority — it seems so counter productive. Ah. . . but, that’s the mystery and gift of Sabbath. If you’ve ever struggled with giving yourself permission to rest or secretly wished for a “sick day” just so you could catch up on your over flowing to-do list, you need to meet my friend Shelly. Buy her book and join me reading Rhythms of Rest.
4. Favorite Facebook Link
I don’t know about you, but I need a social media detox. I get sucked in and if I’m not careful I’ve wasted thirty minutes on a quiz to find out what my spirit animal is or clicking through a slide show of Princess Kate’s fabulous wardrobe. That said, I do find some real gems in my Facebook and Insta feeds. Like this article My Lost Mother’s Last Receipt from The NYT Sunday Review. We just lost Tony’s mother last month and the tenderness of these siblings finding their mother’s purse after twenty years put a lump in my throat.
5. Tasty Videos
I’m loving the quick, cooking videos — like Tasty and Delish. I wish I had video skills to make these videos for you. How fun would that be? Do you like these type of cooking videos? Talk to me. . . in the meantime, how yummy is this One-Pot Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta?
So, there you have it! 5 Things I woke up wanting to share with you.
What about you? What are your 5 things right now?

All The Things:
1. Getting to spend the long weekenend with Ron (husband of 49 years) at our lake house starting in the morning. 2. Obsessing over my small basket of books. Shelly Miller’s book, Rhythms of Rest, is at the top of my basket. 3. Sitting at our front yard Turquoise Table with early morning coffe. 4. Watching as our “lake friends” leave their walks to join us. 5.Hearing the water hit the bulkhead while watching the clouds make art. 6. (Oops) Napping in the old hammock. This time is enough, my Sabbath time, by the grace of God!

I love these posts of All the Things! Keep em coming!
1. My new bullet journal obsession. I’ve included a daily celebration journal to give myself a high five for little things.
2. New white duvet. We’ve been living with a simple grey fleece blanket for 3 yrs. The upgrade makes me feel like a grown up.
3. Ghirrardelli chocolate chip cookies in a box makes every day cookies a reality. Of course the ten year old baker helps as well.
4. Flight view app. My husband is on his way back from Cairo and London. Currently he’s skirting the coast of Maine and I can’t wait to lay eyes on him.
5. the garden close to my house that’s free and still full of blooms. I love setting my alarm for #10minutesofstillness and coming to a full stop. Bird songs in the background don’t hurt either.

I am so glad I am not the only one that loves This Is Us. I just happened to watch the pilot episode and fell hard for it. I laughed, cried, and finished the show excited for the next episode. It has been a long time since I’ve felt this way about a TV show! I hope it makes it.
