We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
~ T. S. Eliot
Every weekday around three-o’clock, if I’m on time, my four children climb into the mini-van, tired and a bit grumpy from a long day at school. Eager to return home, they request I take the short cut. I nod that affirming mommy nod, resisting the urge to tell them there are no short cuts for the ten-minute drive home. There are no short cuts in life, for that matter.
To distract them, I fill the afternoon commute with stories of when I was a great adventurer and traveled the world far and wide. Sometimes, I tell them, you must go far away from the places you love to truly understand where you come from and where you belong . . .

I’m honored to be sharing my story of how I took the long way home, traveling far and wide across the world to end up in the most extraordinary place of all—home.
Join me for Emily Wierenga’s book launch blog tour for her new memoir Atlas Girl which releases July 1st. If you don’t already know Emily, please go visit her site (read my story!) and pre-order Atlas Girl. It will arrive just in time for you to devour this summer.
See you at Emily’s. . .

Loved your story! I am envious of your travels! Jerry traveled abroad in college and has the travel bug, and we enjoy dreaming about the places we’ll travel together!
What a beautiful thing to love strangers. Love that definition of hospitality!
