Annnnnd we are back once again this Friday with another great new read for y’all to enjoy in our giveaway series! This week’s Turquoise Table encouragement book is:
The Art of Neighboring by Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon
I’m excited to give one of you a copy of The Art of Neighboring. Similar to the vision behind putting an ordinary picnic table in my front yard as a means of getting to know my own neighbors, this book tells the story of 21 churches in Colorado who decided to come together with one specific mission: to love their next-door neighbors. Jay and Dave’s encouragement and practical advice is inspiring when it comes to actually getting to know and love those who physically live closest to us- our ACTUAL neighbors!
{From Amazon} What if Jesus meant that we should love our actual neighbors?
When Jesus was asked to sum up everything into one command, he said to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Most of us have turned this simple idea of loving our neighbors into a nice saying, putting it on bumper stickers and refrigerator magnets and then going on with our lives without actually putting it into practice.
What would happen if every follower of Jesus took the Great Commandment literally? Is it possible that the solution to our society’s biggest issues has been right under our noses for the past two thousand years?

Just like last week, I’d love for you to share this post with your friends and neighbors. We are in this together — building community and loving people right where we live.
Happy Friday and happy reading!
I have neighbors that other neighbors consider “difficult”…tacky Christmas decor that stays up most of the year, a messy yard, etc. But I find that they are easy to talk to when we are outside at the same time. When we first moved in and my daughter fell and displaced her knee cap (yuck) and the firemen came to answer our call, that neighbor ran over (midnight) to make sure we were OK and to see if we needed someone to stay with our younger child while we went to the hospital. They are definitely different than other people in the neighborhood, but I know I could count on them and they on me if the need arose. I find myself defending them to other neighbors, even though the tacky decor and messy yard don’t thrill me.
This book sounds great and just what most of us need!
Sounds like a great book. Walking my neighborhood instead of going to the gym or park has helped me connect more with my neighbors.
Lindsay, I love walking in the ‘hood, too. Amazing how many people you can see on a quick stroll!
Some of my attempts at being neighborly have not been met with welcome responses. This looks like a good book!
Bethel, We’ve all been there. It’s hard to persevere when neighborly love isn’t reciprocated. I think you’ll find The Art of Neighboring and all the books we are recommending in our Freebie Friday Giveaway Series encouraging!
I heard you speak at my MOPS group a while back in Austin and you mentioned a non-profit in town that could make me a turquoise table! I have been wanting once since hearing you speak but now I am 7 months preggo and think it is time to outsource the project for a good cause. Would you mind sharing the details?
Anna, So glad you reached out. ReWork Project is the non-profit making Turquoise Tables. http://www.reworkproject.org ReWork help men and women transitioning out of homelessness. They hand make, paint, and deliver the tables. Congrats on the new bundle of love you are about to welcome into the world!
Can’t wait to read this!
I have been praying on how I can reach my neighbors. I would love to win!
We just moved to a new community. I am looking forward to meeting all my new neighbors.
