Inside the Kremlin

Greetings from the Y Dacha in Yaroslavl, Russia! I’m a few days behind in updating from our #YMCARockies2Russia journey. We finally have reliable wifi. I’ll be short on words, but as they say… a picture speaks a thousand. Enjoy a small glimpse of what our group has seen.

Day 2 in Moscow began with our group braving the Metro. Once again we were grateful for Viktor who helped us navigate the underground rails.

We started with a tour of the Armory Museum inside the Kremlin. One of only five treasury buildings in the world, the Armory boasts a staggering collection of Tsarist artifacts, Russian jewelry, and armor. We saw Catherine the Great’s wedding and coronation gowns as well as jewel studded crowns, orbs, and scepters from generations of tsars. The famous double throne of Peter and Ivan and an entire room full of carriages.

Highlights inside the Kremlin included The Cathedral of the Annunciation:

In the afternoon a small world connection led us to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. We met with one of the pastor’s from Minnesota who is here serving as an interim pastor for a year. We were able to hear about the history of the 300 year old church and the ex-pat community it serves in Moscow.

The evening ended with a meal in an authentic Russian restaurant (I’ll do a follow up post on the food in Russia — it merits a full post!)

Be sure to follow along on Facebook and Instagram . . . I’m posting more frequently there. I can’t wait to tell you about the Y – Russia Dacha! More tomorrow. And, forgive my quick posts — our time sitting still is limited.

Meet Kristin

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm on a mission to love my neighbors. I put an ordinary picnic table in my front yard, painted it turquoise and invited neighbors, friends, and even strangers to hang out and do life together at the Turquoise Table®.

I hope you'll join us!
