Mint to be…

You’ll never hear me fully answer the oft asked question by my Littles, “Mama, who is your favorite child?” Sometimes, just to see who has perfected the best eye roll, I’ll tell them Einstein is most definitely my favorite. Our ten year old Golden does not roll his eyes, stomp his feet, or talk smack to the one who feeds him so he is an easy contender. Until he pees on my wool carpet again.

I frequently get prodded to divulge my favorite herb. My reply? Depends on the day. I would be lost without rosemary, broken hearted without tarragon, hardly Texan without cilantro, and generally grumpy without an abundant supply of basil. But today, as with most days, I’m smitten with mint.

I keep a pot of mint growing in a container just outside the kitchen door. When our garden is in full swing, mint occupies it’s fair share of real estate too. I pinch leaves several times a day to freshen up water, lemonade and occasionally a mojito.

Here are a couple of my favorite recipes featuring mint:

Alicia’s Soft Rice Porridge

Buttered Peas with Mint

Spring Rolls

Do you dare to answer the question – what’s your favorite herb?

Love,

Well, cook that I am not, I would dearly miss my Italian favorites with oregano. 🙂

My favorite herb is lemon verbena. It is delicious in a lemony salad dressing. However, the herb I use most is basil – happy to have it growing in the garden again.

Is Einstein truly weeing on the rug? 🙁

Meet Kristin

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm on a mission to love my neighbors. I put an ordinary picnic table in my front yard, painted it turquoise and invited neighbors, friends, and even strangers to hang out and do life together at the Turquoise Table®.

I hope you'll join us!
