I’m pretty sure the world does not need another smoothie recipe. But, I’m in a smoothie-state-of-mind and thought I would share the love. I’m just back from a brutal stint at the gym where my trainer and I discussed smoothies in between breaths – mine, naturally, not hers. I offered numerous times to actually stop what we were doing (lunges and such) so I could make her a fabulously healthy smoothie. I can be quite generous like that. She towed the party line and insisted that we keep on lunging. And lifting. And lunging.
The Littles love smoothies. I love sneaking all kinds of goodness into our smoothies — like flax seed and broccoli. Over the years, we’ve made hundreds of smoothies with all kinds of delicious variations. You can do a quick search of The Schell Cafe (top right corner) and pull up several of our tried and true recipes. Lately we’ve had three special smoothies giving the Vitamix a workout. In fact, I’m sipping The Green Monster as we speak. How’s that for real-time blogging?

Love,
Im a smoothie a day person too! My fav combo is 1 banana, 1 cup almond milk, 1/4 avocado, 1 cup spinach!yum yum!!!!
Is the spinach really good in it? Does it taste “spinachy?” Wondering if I am too set in my ways… 🙂
I just made one yesterday with 1 young thai coconut (all of the water and all of the meat) and three heads of romaine; very good.
Hi Kristin,
Thanks for posting the green smoothie recipes. I’m on the fence about getting a Vitamix, but if you can really puree spinach into a frothy drink, then maybe it’s worth it.
The almond and coconut combo in this looks good, and I’ll bet it just tastes mostly tropical, not much like spinach. I’m with Delaney: I like to use a young coconut, both the meat and the water, in a smoothie– in fact I have some popsicles made with the meat and milk of a couple of young coconuts (plus a few other ingredients) chilling in the freezer now. When I don’t have time for that or don’t have a young coconut I use coconut water that I’ve frozen into ice cubes for my smoothie.
