Almost Six…

elliebdcake

I have a Valentine baby.  And in two short days she will be six. I can’t talk about it…

In the mother of all moves, I somehow lost misplaced my heart shaped baking pan.  And because a heart shaped cake for a Valentine’s Day Birthday is non-negotiable, I had to purchase a replacement lickity split.  I know, I know, I could bake a square cake and a round cake and ‘cut and paste’ together to form a heart, but the notion of having to deal with that much pressure sends shivers up my spine.

I found replacement pans, but they are 12″ and my lost forever pan was 10″.  So, this morning Littlest Middlest and I made a test batch of batter, upping the quantity so that her heart shaped cake would be nice and fluffy and not a sorry, flat flop!

We (and by we I mean she) are still deciding on the flavor of cake.  I hate to rush the creative process of a soon-to-be-six-year-old, but chop-chop…momma’s gotta cake to bake!

What was your favorite birthday cake growing up?

My mom didn’t bake so my favorite cake growing up and still to this day even though they’ve all closed in my town (I think) is the mint chocolate chip ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Oh man, was that good cake. I’m a summer birthday so ice cream cake was a no-brainer.
Happy Happy 6th Birthday to your precious girl!!!

    “The cake that got ate!”
It was June in the Texas Panhandle. The roses were blooming, Daddy had built a brick bar-b-que and a great deck to celebrate summer. All children’s birthday’s on our block were celebrated by all the families….always. We celebrated my birthday along with the new outside additions with a huge cake (probably wasn’t that big) that Mother and I had carefully picked out at the bakery on Main Street. While all were walking around and admiring the labors of love…………..THE DOG ATE MY CAKE ……it was on display in a place of honor on a picnic table ….but not out of reach of our interested doggie. It was a favorite cake because I got soooooooo much attention and it was really funny to all. I loved that cake and of course I love a party!

I always had pumpkin pie with candles since I’m a turkey baby 🙂

I do remember my mom’s favorite cakes growing up were angel food with a barbie in the middle with the cake decorated as an elegant dress.

Oh and funny story! A friend of mine ordered a cake from Chez-zee for her bosses birthday and they asked if she would like them to write anything on it, in which she replied, ” Just Happy Birthday.” and that is what she got…

    JUST HAPPY BIRTHDAY…. no joke!

    Happy birthday Littlest Middlest!

My favorite birthday cake was a Hamburger Cake!!! I have no idea where my mom got it, but the “top bun” was white cake, the “bottom bun” was chocolate cake, and the burger was a huge brownie. It was decorated soooo beautifully. Ketchup and mustard and lettuce frosting!!! Chop chop saucymomma. I want to see one of those next month for Biggest Little’s bday!!! We of course had burgers to eat and then a burger cake. Fun, fun.

Oh, happy birthday to the little mouse!

My favorite cake of all time was a castle cake that my mother somehow constructed. It was huge (I was maybe 5, so I don’t know in reality how big it *actually* was), and had upside-down ice cream cones for the castle spires.

Also, I hate it when my baking equipment takes a walk on me. Hope your pan eventually turns up.

Oh, Happy Birthday to you little one.

Birthdays were a huge event at my house when I was young. Huge dinners of favorite meals and of course a wonderful homemade cake. My mom was a wiz at creative cakes; but my all time favorite cake, even to this day, is a luscious German Chocolate Cake. No one can touch my mom’s cakes in moistness and it is still a treat each year when she continues to indulge me with her goodness.

Txmomof3’s mother and my mother must have been freinds! My mom is a great cook, but she didn’t make bday cakes – the few I remember came from Baskin Robbins.

Our favorite family cake now is the strawberry cake from the Necessities and Tempations cookbook.

    Happy Late 6th bday!!
