We’ve waited. And waited.
The kiss that left us all breathless and hanging. . .
Finally. Season Three of Downton Abbey premiers in just three short days. Just enough time to get your Brit on. Whether you plan on hosting a proper English fête for the premier or casually dining with the telly in plain view, here are three menus to inspire and enhance your Downton Abbey experience.
Fish & Chips sounds so much better than fried fish and french fries, which is how it translates this side of the pond. If you want a fried fish option check out my Friday Fried Fish. You really can’t beat fish & chips, but for a Downton Abbey worthy supper, I’m going with Mussels bathed in Sauvignon Blanc and Crispy Roasted Potatoes.
I can’t wait to make a Shepherd’s Pie and know the Littles will love this menu best of all. I’ve ordered ground lamb from a local farm and will follow a recipe I’ve had in my files torn from the November ’07 issue of Cookie Magazine. Sadly, the magazine and it’s site cookiemag.com folded a few years ago. So, try this Easy Shepherd’s Pie from Simply Recipes and this English Bread Pudding from Martha Stewart we’ll compare notes, mkay?
My sister-in-law ate at the hip Muriel’s Kitchen last year and swears by the Grilled Chicken & Broccoli Sprouts with Red Onion, Chili, Sour Cream and Mustard Sauce. My brother married up, as they say, and when she turned me on to Muriel’s Kitchen I just about died. Don’t you want to move into this darling kitchen in Kensington? While we are in London, dining and stalking the Crawley’s, we should also pop into Harrods for afternoon tea or their Smoked Haddock & Quail Egg Salad. And Bramley apples? I imagine Selfridges‘ version of the local apple pie is heaven on the British Isles. Since I couldn’t find the famous department store’s recipe, these Union Jack Chocolate Truffles are on order!
If all this seems extreme, there’s always popcorn and champagne!
Tell me, what are your plans for Sunday night’s premiere of Downton Abbey? And, who is your favorite character?
Cheers mates!

Thanks for posting this! I was doing some light googling for inspiration and this is great. I’m not quite sure what I’ll end up doing but I love champagne dressing – such a gem.
