A Stop In, Pop In Home
Years ago, when the Littles were still little, I received an invitation in the mail that has stuck with me ever since. Sent in the mail, before Evite and Facebook, this festive invitation was for a Christmas jewelry show hosted by friends. The whimsical font announced it was a Stop In, Pop In party and I thought it was the most welcoming invite ever. Friends were encouraged to drop by when it was convenient and stay as long as they were able.
I dont’ know about y’all but I get commitment phobia this time of year. I love a good party, but as our calendar swells with more ink than white space, I get a little antsy searching for the unplanned hours. Those free times on the calendar that allow for spontaneous, more organic get-togethers like coffee with another mom, hot chocolate for the neighborhood kids, or a glass of wine and a tiny ‘tizer on a whim with a friend.
Tips & Recipes for Welcoming Guests on A Moment’s Notice
Being the do drop in house requires a tiny bit of planning. Here are a few tips so you’ll be prepared to welcome guests on a moment’s notice.
- Have good coffee, tea, and all the fixings on hand. Keep sugar packets and an assortment of mini-creamers in the pantry.
- Keep a stash of assorted nuts. Served in a small pretty bowl, even a simple gesture of mixed nuts will make your guest feel special.
- Stock up on kid-friendly snacks like popcorn, hot chocolate and lemonade.
- Have pantry & freezer staples stocked for your favorite go-to recipes {try my favorite ~ Hot Onion Soufflé}
- Buy an extra bottle of white & red wine. If you are unsure what to serve, ask the wine guys for crowd pleasing recommendations.
- Add several bottles of sparkling water to your list of items to have on hand. We love serving Topo Chico.
‘Tiny Tizers in a Hurry
I love these tartlets. They take no time at all to prepare if you have the the items on hand and will make an improptu happy hour a little happier.
three ingredients + dash of spice + 5 minutes in the oven {even the toaster oven!} = tiny ‘tizer bliss.
